Teen charged in robbery of owner of grocery store

FAIRMONT — A second teenager has been charged for his role in robbing the father of a Fairmont commissioner, according to Fairmont police.Phillip Leondra Leggett, 19, was arrested Sunday for conspiring with 18-year-old Preondai Alford to steal a gun from Frank McCree, the owner of McCree’s Grocery, according to Chief Danny Parker, head of Fairmont’s Department of Public Safety.Leggett is charged with common law robbery, felony conspiracy and resisting an officer.Alford turned himself in to police on Feb. 5, three days after he walked into the Martin Luther King Drive store and “got into a confrontation with McCree,” Parker said.

 

Fairmont man faces cocaine charge

FAIRMONT — A Fairmont man was arrested Tuesday after sheriff’s deputies found cocaine in his home, according to Randall Graham, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.Elvis Sweat, 53, is charged with felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.Sweat was under investigation “for several weeks” by deputies after they received complaints of drug activity at his Coward Drive home, Graham said. Fairmont will seek $3M sewer grant
